The Import Class Display Names File gives admins an easy way to manage the naming of classes that appear in Gradient. Class Display Names are optional and provide a more readable alternative to the original class name.
Access Import File Template (Import Class Display Names tab)
From Admin Mode, select the Classes OR More > Imports tab to access and click a blue New button. From the drop-down menu, select Import Class Display Names. From the Import Class Display Names pop-up window, click the linked import file template text to make a copy of the Import File Template as a Google Sheet.
To use the Import Class Display Names tab, click the drop-down arrow in the tab > Copy to > New spreadsheet, to copy only the Import Class Display Names tab to a new sheet before populating your data OR Download the tab as a .CSV file after you have populated your data.
Make a copy of the Import File Template (Import Class Display Names tab) as a Google Sheet, or create your own file using the Import Class Display Names File Format section below.
File Format (Required Columns)
Column Header | Description |
Term_ID |
Create or Edit Terms in Gradient before creating your import file so that you know both the Term Unique ID to include in the file and have verified the dates for terms that will be associated with the classes being imported. Note: The Term Name and Term Unique ID are two different fields. Ensure you have populated the Term Unique ID (Term_ID) in Gradient first! |
School_ID |
School names are already pre-loaded, but the School Unique ID needs to be added by a Gradient Leader. The School_ID is a label used in the import file to associate each row of data with a school (School IDs may be a numeric code from your SIS or an acronym for a school). Note: From the Schools tab, ensure the School Unique ID field is populated in Gradient. |
Class_ID |
Class_IDs must be unique for each individual class and should have already been assigned when classes were created. Note: The Class_ID will not show for staff. It is a unique identifier that will appear within Admin Mode and will allow for updates to Class_Name and Class_Period if needed. |
Class_Display_Name |
The name in this field will be displayed to staff and students (with an asterisk at the end) instead of the existing Class Name. *OPTIONAL - Included to allow staff to differentiate between classes that may have similar Class Names. This field could be left blank to revert to the original Class Names. |
Note: *OPTIONAL = Optional column to populate with data, column header must be in the file.
