The Grade Transfer feature works for any teacher with classes in the current Academic Year and allows assignment grades to be quickly pasted into any online gradebook. To learn more watch the video or read on.
Configure Grade Transfer Settings
Customize settings for how students are organized within each class in Gradient (last name sort, first name sort, student ID sort) to match the order of your student list in your online gradebook exactly. Additional customizations may be needed to get the transfer feature to work with your specific online gradebook.
To configure your Gradient settings for Grade Transfer, access your Account Menu at the top right corner of your screen and select Settings. Click Grade Transfer from the list of options on the left.
Note: If you've never used Grade Transfer or Camera scanned before, you will need to install a web browser extension called GradeCam Helper.
Grade Transfer Settings
Name Sorting (Student Sort) |
Select the format that will match your online gradebook. Sorting by Student ID is often the best option to account for how student names are recorded or sorted differently across platforms. |
Special Characters (Student Name Format) |
Spaces, apostrophes, and hyphens in a name can change the sort order. Select whether you want to include or ignore special characters when sorting students by first or last name. |
Return Key (Grade Entry) |
Match how Gradient "pastes" grades into your online gradebook with how you would manually enter them (move between scores down a column by hitting return, tab, etc.) |
Speed (Speed of Entry) | Select how quickly you want data to be transferred. |
Paste, Hotkey, Right Click (Transfer Shortcut) |
Note: These default settings are the recommended options for grade transfer. |
Note: Your Return Key and Speed settings may need to be adjusted based on your online gradebook and network performance.
Grade Transfer vs. Grade Passback
If available at your organization, consider using the automatic assignment sync (Grade Passback) to your gradebook instead of Grade Transfer.
When an assignment is created in Canvas, Schoology, or Jupiter and mapped to a Gradient assignment, grades scanned from paper forms will automatically be passed back to the Canvas, Schoology, or Jupiter gradebook.
Grade Passback involves scores linked to individual students that automatically reflect in Canvas, Schoology, or Jupiter gradebooks once the student has submitted the assignment.
Grade Transfer in Gradient involves copying and pasting assignment grades according to a predetermined sort order (alpha by name or numeric by student ID).
For best practice with Canvas specifically, schools or districts who leave “concluded” students on the roster in Canvas should use the automatic Grade Passback vs. Grade Transfer since the sort order of grades won’t match the student roster in Canvas
Grade Transfer
Grade Transfer relies on matching the Gradient list of students for a class to the order and list of students in your online gradebook. Verifying that students are in the correct order and that scores are in the valid format within Gradient to match your online gradebook, is essential.
1. To begin, open an assignment with scores in the Responses tab. 2. From the toolbar, select Transfer. Within another browser window, open your gradebook to the class or course you would like to transfer grades to. |
|
3. Select the Class that has grades to transfer for this assignment.
4. Select the format to export scores.
|
|
5. Select one of the three options for transferring scores and follow the step-by-step directions for that method.
6. Select Done to close the transfer window. |
Grade Transfer Using Standards
1. In the Transfer the... section, choose the preferred score format.
|
|
2. Then choose a specific standard to transfer scores from the dropdown menu for...
3. Select one of the three options for transferring grades and follow the step-by-step directions provided for that method to complete the grade transfer. |
The grade transfer will be based on the score achieved for that specific standard for each student.
- Example: A student correctly answered 3/5 on a specific standard. The grade transferred will be a 3 when exact points awarded is chosen or a 60 for percent points awarded. The option selected in the Transfer the... section will adjust how the scores are transferred for the standard.
